Please note that this post contains spoilers for the movie.

I have had very few movies that I’ve been wanting to see at this end of the year, and Frozen 2 was one of them. T and I love a Disney movie. Its why we don’t really care what it looks like when the two of us turn up to watch them without a child. What did surprise me about the release of Frozen 2 is that Australia was only a week behind the US release. Sometimes we don’t get the Thanksgiving releases until Boxing day so the movie can be spoilt a bit during the month-long wait. It’s what happened with me and Frozen, I knew the twist regarding Hans three weeks before I got to see the movie.

Before I go on I want to say just in case you didn’t see the note at the beginning of the post that this is going to contain spoilers. I’m not going to give everything away but I will be talking about some scenes so that parents are fully aware of this movie before they go in. If you don’t want the movie spoilt but do want to get an idea so you can help your child I suggest checking out IMDB’s parent's guide on Frozen. If you don’t mind a few scenes talked about then continue to read.
Frozen 2 is an amazing sequel to Frozen. Sequels can often be a flip of the coin regarding how good they are and it's obvious that Disney worked hard to make sure that Frozen 2 held up to its predecessor. If your child was a fan of the original movie when it came out or has become a fan in the years since then they’re going to love it.

It continues to show a loving and caring relationship between Elsa and Anna while also showing how Anna’s relationship with Kristoff has developed since the last movie. This movie once again doesn’t focus on romantic love and instead looks more closely at the love between Elsa and Anna as they try and work together to unravel how a treaty between their grandfather and a native people resulted in the elemental spirits and an enchanted forest being cut off from the rest of the world.

There is a secondary plotline that revolves around Kristoff trying to propose to Anna and its very bumbling and adorable. It also explodes into this 80s-esque power ballad from Kristoff, with help from Sven, which is amazing. This plotline is woven throughout the movie but it doesn’t overtake the main plot, more so compliments it and actually shows an amazing male character who isn’t afraid to reveal his emotions and isn’t threatened by the love that Elsa and Anna share. Kristoff’s statement of “my love’s not that fragile” is such a lovely one to hear.

Olaf has become a philosopher in this movie and is just a comedic in this movie as the original, as is Sven. Some of the things that Olaf does say during this philosophising may go over the kid's heads but adults will get a bit of a laugh out of it.

This movie looks at a lot of different things that haven’t been touched on in the original movie. While Frozen was all about two sisters coming together and the love between them, Frozen 2 looks more at the grief they still feel over the death of their parents, Elsa trying to figure out who she is when she still doesn’t feel like she belongs in Arendale, and Anna having to come to terms with there may be a time when Elsa is not going to be with her like she is now. This results in some very intense scenes that may cause some problems for younger children or children who are sensitive, especially if they reacted badly in Frozen when the Hans twist revealed itself.

There are also a lot of sad scenes that involve Elsa and Anna finding out what happened to their parents and why they went on their trip that resulted in their death as well as a scene that involves Elsa and Olaf where they, for lack of a better word, die. It’s very sad and I cried during it. There is a happy ending and honestly I loved the ending as I thought it was amazing and allowed both Anna and Elsa to come out and be the people they are meant to be.

I can’t talk about this movie without mentioning the music, which is phenomenal. If you thought that Let It Go was hard to get out of your head, then you are going to have some problems with the songs in Frozen. I’m foreseeing many children singing Into the Unknown like they did Let it Go and I can see many older people falling in love with Show Yourself. I’ve already mentioned Kristoff’s Alone in the Woods power ballad but honestly just get the soundtrack and binge listen to it because it’s worth it.

Overall, Frozen 2 is a great sequel to Frozen. Kids are going to love it, the songs are going to get stuck in your head and you’re going to get a break from Frozen for a little while.
