One of the things that I’ve become
very aware of over the past decade of being a nanny is that while parents may
want to be able to sit down and do a craft with their kids, they may not be artistically
inclined.
I know exactly how that
feels.
As much as I would love to be
able to draw the perfect truck for my nanny boys to colour in or Batman for
that matter, I’m just not that good. However, I have been come very good at
breaking down objects into basic shapes and creating very easy and very simple
papercrafts from them.
Creating simple crafts was
something that I have been wanting to create for Le Giggler for a while, but it
was put on the back burner with the arrival of AJ. Now that things have settled
down a bit, I was able to sit down during her naps and get started on a couple
of the ideas I have and now 2 of them are available on my Etsy shop.
Rocket Off and Sailing Downthe Stream were two designs that I have used a number of times over the years
as rockets and boats are both very popular with the kids I nanny. They’re both
created using basic shapes and so they’re very easy to put together and add on
to.
Both designs are currently
available separately on the shop but I hope to put them and other designs that I
come up within one giant pack in the future, just as soon as I have more designs.
In each pack, you will find an instruction page, a black and white linework, and
a coloured image. All of it comes in a PDF and once you have paid for them they
are instantly available for you to download and use.
You’re probably wondering why
I have a black and white linework and a colour image in both these packs.
When I was creating them, I
wanted to make it so they were able to be used not only by parents but by those
in the child care industry or anyone who does craft with kids. I also wanted
to make sure that they could be used multiple times but at the same time staying
very easy to put together. When I used to work in the library and was getting crafts
ready, I found that it was easier to get everything organised from a black and
white line work but as a nanny, when you’re pressed for time, having everything
already to cut out and coloured makes organising things easier as well.
So, the black and white line
work was created so that it could be printed onto colour paper and cut out while
the coloured image was a quicker, less time-consuming way to do the craft.
What is also great about
these crafts is that they are a fabulous way to learn while playing. You’ve heard
me talk about introducing shapes and colours to kids before, well while you are
making these crafts, they can also be used to foster a child’s shape and colour
recognition.
You also don’t have to stick
just to using what I have talked about on the instruction page. You can also involve
multimedia into the craft by using stickers and paints and glitter to really
add to the craft.
If you’re interested in purchasing
either of these crafts, you can find them by clicking the individual links
above or by clicking shop at the top of the screen.
